This is my new garden- Day 1.
It has now been a week and, looking at this picture, I'm surprised to say that it actually looks very different now. Aside from obvious changes, like mulch and tomato and pepper cages, the plants are a little bigger. They're growing!

For no good reason whatsoever I have fully expected (and still do a little) to wake up each morning to find that all of the plants have died. I suppose I think they will do this out of spite or because the universe informs them during the night that they must commit suicide as it is in my celestial fate or planetary alignment that I never keep a plant alive.

They ARE bigger, though, (I will have to document that soon) so even if they all die without producing fruit, that's progress, right?

Anyway, the right two rows are tomatoes, the middle two are hot peppers, and the left two are herbs.

I have had some bad luck- I accidentally killed a tomato plant by breaking it and the rosemary isn't looking so hot.

Casualties so far: 1.5?

Wedding Cake One Year Later

Sunday was our anniversary. We spent the day spending money. I bought James a new camera, which I plan on using often, since I am physically incapable of taking a non-blurry picture with the iPhone. James bought me gorgeous new knives, which he will consume the benefits of. We had dinner and fun and it was a great day. I sorely missed a glass of wine at dinner. It would have been nice to celebrate while a little tipsy. (Four more weeks!)

When we got home, we anxiously took bites of the top of our wedding cake, which had been defrosting all afternoon. Once the fondant was peeled away, it actually tasted pretty similar to the day of. It was bad then, but I feared a rotten frost-bitten mess on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe a year in the freezer the the way to learn to appreciate any mediocre cake. "For something baked a year ago, this is pretty damn good!"

We are officially no longer newlyweds.
